Jordan Hogan, known to many runners as Jordan Hasay, recently connected with Hettas through our Coaching Collective program. Alongside her husband, Ryan, she runs Hogan Performance, a personalized coaching service that builds individually tailored training plans and offers in-person and virtual meetups. We spoke with her about coaching, motherhood, and finding her way back to running after pregnancy.
We would be remiss not to bring up Jordan’s extensive running experience and successes. She set multiple national high school records and medaled at the IAAF World Youth Championships; she remains one of the most decorated high school athletes of all time. After completing a Major in Business Administration at the University of Oregon, Jordan continued her incredible career as a Varsity Athlete, earning 18 All-American honours. After graduating, she represented Team USA in the 10,000m at the 2013 IAAF World Championships, then turned her focus to the roads. In 2017 (and 2019), she placed 3rd in the Boston Marathon, setting the American record for the fastest marathon debut, and later that year ran her personal best: a staggering 2:20:57, earning her a 3rd-place finish at the Chicago Marathon.
In 2024, Jordan started coaching full-time. She wanted to give back to the sport and share what she had learned but hadn’t expected how much she would get from the athletes she coached.
“I had no idea what I was getting into, but my athletes inspire me so much, and I love it even more than my own career,” she told us.
While seeing someone reach a running goal matters to her, what she finds most rewarding is watching athletes learn to enjoy the process, whatever the result. She hopes the lessons they take from running will help them navigate challenges elsewhere in their lives.
That approach shapes the team Jordan and Ryan have built. Training knowledge matters when they choose coaches, but so does kindness and the way someone connects with others. Currently accepting new athletes, Hogan Performance works with runners across levels and distances, with much of its coaching focused on the half marathon and marathon. Jordan’s track background also informs her work with athletes pursuing shorter-distance goals.
The Hettas team joined one of their virtual group meetups to talk about our shoes and the research behind female-specific footwear. We were struck by the warm dynamic between Jordan, Ryan, their coaches and the runners on the call.
Female coaches are often underrepresented, and it’s so great to see elite athletes like Jordan turn their focus to coaching, both to share knowledge and because they can provide insights on topics that are specific to the female experience. In July 2025, Jordan gave birth to her son Micah; she has loved watching him grow and, like any mother, is amazed by how quickly it goes by. As a coach, she had some interesting reflections about how this experience impacts her philosophies:
Jordan ran through her entire pregnancy – literally, her water broke on a run!! Before her pregnancy with Micah, she had stepped back from training, and so once pregnant, running felt like a familiar friend to return to through all the changes that come with pregnancy. For her, this meant that she ramped up her training, relative to what she had done in the months prior.
“I found it very special,” she said. “Running felt like something normal that I could do.”
Her advice to other moms is to do what feels right for you and your baby, have fun and have faith in the process; she noted how strong her maternal instincts around safety were when pregnant – her body prevented itself from pushing too hard.
After giving birth, Jordan was surprised by how good she felt, in a relatively short time post-partum. Following years of injury and time away from racing, it was hard not to get excited as training began to click. Then a stress fracture, a common experience for elite moms returning to sport post-partum, interrupted that momentum, and she had to step back and reset completely.
She described feeling upset and blaming herself for returning too quickly. Looking back, she felt she hadn’t fully appreciated the demands of being a first-time parent. If she were doing it again, she said, she would not underestimate the impact of poor sleep or breastfeeding on recovery and return more slowly to the sport.
That experience now informs how she coaches athletes returning after pregnancy. Her emphasis is on taking time, focusing on strength, and making room for life with the baby. Her own return is still part of the story, rather than a neatly finished chapter.
Watching Micah learn and grow has brought plenty of joy along the way. He is 15 months old and, when we spoke, was already wanting to run! There’s no doubt his super-star mom will be a huge inspiration as he grows up!
Jordan first heard about Hettas through her friends, then connected with us on Instagram. She understands what we’re building at Hettas, and why products built for women's bodies are so important. With narrow feet and a history of rubbing in other shoes, her favourite shoe in our lineup is the Alma. She is a big fan of its secure fit and its soft, flexible heel cup!
We’re glad to have Jordan in our coaching collective. Her experience as an athlete, coach and mother brings something valuable to the conversations we’re having with runners, and we look forward to continuing them. To find out more about Jordan and Hogan Performance, check out their website here.
